I gave up smoking eight years ago. I thought I'd never give up. In truth I just hadn't been ready. Eventually what had once been a pleasure had become a thorn in my side, and like any bad relationship, I had begun to hate and resent it - the amount of money I was spending, the smell on my clothes and so on.

Now I help people in Sussex in the UK to give up smoking using hypnotherapy. It's not right for everyone, but less than 5% of the people I have treated need a follow up session.

No chemicals are good, but e-cigs are definitely much less dangerous than real fags. The FDA move was a response on behalf of the tobacco industry, IMHO.
As far as chemicals are concerned, plastic water bottles also contain carcinogens which tranfer to the water. The plastic lining in cans of food has the same problem. We can't eliminate. We can only minimize.

E-cigarettes are actually not a harmless alternative to real cigarettes and in fact have been banned in the States by the FDA. They contain chemicals that are cancer-causing. If you want an alternative try nicotine gum, lozenges, or patches.

For years, we have been taxed again and again, frowned at, made to feel guilty, forced to smoke a variety of unsavory chemicals, pushed to back rooms and even out into the cold.
